The beach is one of the top tourist destinations of Cochin.
This pristine beach is situated at a distance of about 35 km from Cochin, in the Cherai village of the Ernakulam district. With its glittering golden sands, blue captivating waters and lush green surroundings, Cherai beach is also popularly known as the ‘Princess of the Arabian Sea’.


The beach is one the most favored tourist destinations among the visitors in South India. The picturesque coastline of this beach stretches over a distance of about 15 km. The beach is comparatively much cleaner than the other popular beaches of Kerala. The shallow captivating water of the beach is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. As the Cherai beach is located as the close distance from Kochi city, which is a significant commercial capital of Kerala, the beach stands an alluring option for the ones who are looking for some retreat from the busy life of the cities.

Best Time to Visit

Though the beach can be visited throughout the year, the best time to visit this beach is from October to April, as during this time the region experiences pleasant climate.

By Road: The beach is easily accessible from Ernakulam by taking a ferry to Vypeen Island, which is located at a distance of about 22km from Cherai.

By Rail: The nearest railway station to this beach is at Aluva, which is located at a distance of about 23 km from Cherai.

By Air: The nearest airport to this beach is Cochin International Airport, which is located at a distance of about 23 km from Cherai.
