Tirur
is an important town situated in south India in the state of Kerala which has
been growing popular as a tourist spot in the state.
The town lays 28 kms westward of the city of Malappuram. Besides the tourism that pulls the tourists here the place is also famous for the beetle leaves and the fish. Actually Tirur is a major business hub in the region. The region has got good literacy rate higher than the national average of about 80%. Tirur is one of the first places in the state where the railroad was laid down by the British.
Moving ahead with the places that can interest the tourists we reach the Thirunavaya at a distance of about 7 kms south of Tirur. It is a major historical place in area. It is known for the three major temples dedicated to the Trimurti (gods of creation) that find mention in the Hindu mythology. this place is located by the Bharathapuzha River.
There are a number of holy Hindu shrines in Tirur as the Triprangode Kalasamharamurthy Temple, the Vyrankodu Bhagavathi Temple etc. there is the small town Puthiyangadi which is considered very much holy by the Muslims. This small town is filled with plenty of small wonders for the tourists. Not very far from Tirur have we got a lovely spot where the Bharathapuzha and the Tirur rivers meet pour into the sea. Here we find a small gorgeous beach which is very much picturesque.

Tirur
is well known to be the birthplace of the famous poet Thunjathu Ramanujan
Ezhuthachan who is known as the father of the state language, Malayalam. In his
honor there are a few events are organized in the state. The “Thunjan Utsavam”
which is held every year in the first week of January attracts plenty of
tourists every year. During this week plenty of traditional shows are held in
which the local youth participate to showcase their talents in art, music and
dance. Again there is the “Thunjan Paramba” a place in Tirur where the memorial
of the great poet has been built. A mela is held which displays the literary
treasures of the place and is held usually in the last week of December.

place is well connected by rail and road to the nearby places of Thrissur,
Kozhikode, Malappuram etc. the interested visitors to Tirur can easily take the
help of the innumerable bus services that are engaged in reaching the visitors
to this small business and tourist hub. The nearest railhead reaches up to the
Tirur railway station at about 8.7 kms. At a distance of about 35 kms the
tourists can touch down at the Calicut international airport.
